YWCA – Women in Transition

As their name implies, they are a resource for employed women in transition. It’s a good program, but it is more difficult to get into than many other programs in town. In fact, they refused to be interviewed for this blog and referred us to their website. The program houses you anywhere from 3 to 18 months.

To begin with, they do not accept “self-referrals.” That means that a case worker in another agency must recommend you for entry into their program.

  • Here are their other criteria
  • You must have a net income over $700/month
  • You must pass their interview where they will judge whether or not you are prepared to turn your life around
  • You will be charged rent for your room. Depending on the configuration that could be anywhere from $320 ~ $370/month.
  • If you’re fortunate enough to get into their program they will provide the following:
  • Affordable housing where the rent includes utilities
  • Supportive Case management
  • A resource center with computers, internet access, on-line tutorials and a library
  • On-site education and self-improvement workshops
  • Membership to the on-site co-ed fitness center

If you want to go after this opportunity, find a case manager in one of the other organizations on our site and have them go to this link for the contact information and procedures
