Disability Rights

The Disability Rights office in Charlotte is one of several in NC as part of their Independent Living initiative. They cover people with disabilities in Mecklenburg County and the three surrounding NC counties. They are a great resource if you or your caseworker needs to connect with disability resources. And if you feel like resources have been withheld from you, they’ll open a case to look at it.
Here is a list of their goals:

  • Peer mentoring
  • Independent living skills training
  • Information and referral
  • Youth transit services
  • Advocacy to maintain rights
  • Work to keep disabled people from homelessness or being put in a “Home”

Intake is simple. Clients can call in to (704) 537-0550 if it pertains to one of the above goals. Their site is https://disability-rights.org/
