Many years ago, (around 1960) a doctor named CW Williams started a medical clinic on Freedom Blvd. It was the first black-owned community healthcare clinic in Charlotte. That one clinic has grown into 3 locations with both medical and dental services. Of course a case worker can refer a client there but the client should also know they can “self-present.” And they are big on not creating barriers to service. So they will send their bus to pick up a client even if they are a new patient.
CW Williams has 3 locations. Their biggest and recently rebuilt clinic is at 3333 Wilkinson Blvd. The one pictured above is located at 5800 Old Pineville Rd. And there’s one more Administrative/Outreach office located at 800 Clanton Rd. The clinic on Wilkinson covers both medical and dental needs. Together, the clinics serve thousands of patients every year. They are a fee-based clinic but they charge patients on a sliding scale based on income. They accept Medicaid and their motto is that they turn no one away.
In addition to providing medical and dental care, they also provide mental health and substance abuse counseling via the licensed case workers they have on site. They have established a relationship with Atrium so they have admitting privileges there.
And finally, their compassion to serve the community does not end at their door. They have a Dental Bus, a Medical bus and a Maternity Health bus that make regular stops at shelters like Roof Above and Salvation Army.
You can make an appointment to see them by calling 866-299-4968 or visiting their website at CW Williams or see them every 2nd and 4th Tuesday afternoon at Roof Above’s Day Services Center.
