Ada Jenkins Center

There’s a magical resource for homeless services that seems a world away from center-city Charlotte; yet it’s only 15 minutes up I-77. This resource was created only 5 years ago in the shell of an old unused elementary school. Yet today it stands as a powerhouse of services for the under-privileged and unhoused population of Northern Mecklenburg county. Unfortunately, they restrict themselves to serving only residents of Cornelius, Huntersville and Davidson. Still, if you’re a resident of one of these three towns, it’s hard to imagine getting better care than what you’ll find at A.J.C.

Every year thousands of people take advantage of their counseling, food or heavily subsidized after-school programs. And while they don’t currently offer shelter, they keep homelessness to a minimum with their carefully controlled and monitored preemptory pre-eviction assistance. Be sure to look at this straight-up page on their website before you ask them for financial assistance. https://www.adajenkins.org/services/financial-assistance/
Their counselors will even refer clients to local housing organizations to help clients find housing. They even have a Habitat for Humanity office in the same building.

The A.J.C. is located at 212 Gamble St in Davidson. It’s just a couple of blocks off the 77X bus route from center-city Charlotte or right on the #99 bus route from NorthLake Mall. Their phone # is 704-896-0471 and this website is https://www.adajenkins.org/.
