Currently, their specialty is helping people in poverty build assets, primarily through owning real estate. But like many resources, they have multiple departments and that’s the topic of this post. They have a Traveler’s Aid department that can help transport you to safe and secure housing out of town. In fact, they prioritize helping victims of Domestic Violence get out of Charlotte to live with a relative in some other locale or state. But even if you’re not a victim of Domestic Violence and just find yourself stranded in Charlotte, they will help you. Here’s how it works.. You can get a referral from a case worker at any of the other resources listed on this site OR you can simply go to their office at 601 E. 5th Street, (Suite 460) or call them at (704) 943-9490. They are usually open Monday ~ Friday from 9a to 5p. They will verify that the location you’re going to is safe then they will get you a free travel voucher to that location.. Funds may have run out for this service. We are waiting for confirmation from CL about that. The funds for their usual TA program ran out and NCDOT would not replenish. So they’re saving what funds they have left for internal Domestic Violence clients.
The picture here shows their common entrance with several other non-profits. Just go inside and talk to the security guard at the front desk to access their suite. Security staff will navigate you to the right place. Guests are asked to sign in and out at the front desk as well.

In addition to their Traveler’s Aid program, they have a program called Foreclosure Prevention to help prevent you from becoming homeless. If the bank is about to foreclose on your home, Community Link has a skilled housing counselor that can help renegotiate your loan with the bank.
