Housing – Finders

There are a lot of choices on this site for shelters. Here are some untested options for straight housing. If you have some kind of job and a little saved up for a down-payment, then this might be a fast way to find a place to rent. What’s listed below are two “housing finders” web pages. You will need to beware of scams, visit the actual site and ask someone to double check the lease before signing it. Many of these places are “affordable housing” which means you pay rent based on your income. So you might get a decent place whose rent is just 30% of your monthly income.

Hotpads is a site that lets you filter the results by monthly rent. This link has a built-in filter of $500/month. Hotpads at $500/month or less

Roomster is a site that will help you find a vacant room to stay in. This link only shows rooms available at $600/month

HousingCLT is site that has some detailed filters on distance from public transportation and VASH. Here is their list for places under $500/month

What’s not obvious is whether or not you need a certain credit score to rent these places and how easy it is to get to your job from these places. And, I am sorry to tell you that if you’ve been evicted before, it’s very unlikely that any of these landlords will rent to you. In that case, go to Roof Above, get a Coordinated Assessment, and ask for the Housing Coordinator there.
