They have a 12 month, live-in, transitional housing program for women with children. Their goal is beyond self-sufficiency; it’s financial security and home ownership.
Their program is not free but appears to be very successful. Most graduates will leave the program with a downpayment and a very realistic path to home ownership. There’s currently a 6~8 month waitlist to get into the program.
In addition to the warm, structured and nurturing environment I observed on my last visit, there are reasons this program is generating successful graduates.
- There’s a job requirement. To get into the program you have to have a job. So applicants already understand the meaning of commitment
- There’s a $400/month fee to stay in the program
- There are financial literacy classes to teach program members how to handle money
- Members are provided with a Life Coach to help them cope with motherhood challenges along with formulating steps to achieve their goals
- child care is provided at no additional charge
- there are rules like curfews that
